# MCP

> Connect an MCP server, sync its tools, and let the agent call the ones you enable

**MCP** (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way to connect an outside tool service to Botcadence. After you connect and sync it, the service’s tool list appears on the workflow **Tools** tab under **MCP**. You choose which tools the agent may use.

Create the connection under **Build → MCP Servers**. A connected server with no sync, or with tools left off, will not run.

Use MCP when you already have (or can host) an outside service with several tools. For one web address that performs one task, use [custom actions](/docs/build/actions.md).

## Connect a server

**1. Open MCP Servers**

In the project sidebar, under **Build**, select **MCP Servers**.

**2. Connect MCP server**

Add a name, the remote endpoint, and transport (**Streamable HTTP** or **SSE**). Add headers if the server requires them.

**3. Sync tools**

Select **Sync tools**. The server’s tool list appears. If nothing is listed, sync again after the server is reachable.

## Enable on a workflow

**1. Open Tools**

Open the workflow, select an **Agent**, **Supervisor**, or **Task**, then open **Tools**.

**2. Turn MCP tools on**

Under **MCP**, enable each discovered tool this node may call.

**3. Publish**

Publish the workflow so live conversations can use the synced tools.

> [!TIP]
>
> Ask something that should use a synced tool. Confirm the server receives the call.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Sync, then enable tools on the node, then publish. Connecting the server alone does not attach those tools to the agent.
